History - from Music Studio To Music Superstore
The first Opus 1 Studio was opened in 1985 at Northbrook Plaza in Evansville, Indiana. Opus 1 Studio was primarily a teaching studio. Gradually over the years we expanded to include retail product sales and assumed the official business name of Opus 1 Music.
The Northbrook store was expanded three times, as walls from adjoining retail spaces were removed to allow for our growth. Opus 1 Music became known as the “Tri-State's Fastest Growing Music Store.”
In July 1987 a second location was added in Evansville's new Eastland Mall. Eastland Mall is a regional shopping mall, drawing visitors from over a 60-mile radius. Our presence there allowed us to become known to a much wider customer base.
In January 1991 Opus 1 Music moved it's Eastland Mall store to the Wal-Mart center located on the newly constructed Lloyd Expressway. In March 1992 we moved the Northbrook Plaza store to University Plaza near the rapidly expanding University of Southern Indiana campus. These moves allowed us to increase the size of each store and to provide a convenient location for our customers. Opus 1 Music was now positioned for growth!
During the next few years we combined the two stores into a single, larger Lloyd Expressway store. In February 2003 we moved into our current, totally renovated 12,000 square foot facility located at 301 North Royal Avenue in Evansville, Indiana. The Opus 1 Music super store was born!
Continuing Tradition - Our Music Studio Today
Throughout all of our growth and expansion of services, the Opus 1 Music teaching studio program has maintained focus on our original goals and purpose – to provide the very best in private musical instruction. The Opus 1 Music studio now provides lessons for over 400 students a month. Our teachers are carefully screened and selected for their musical expertise and training. Our teacher selection process places great emphasis on an instructor's ability to relate to students in ways that make music lessons rewarding and enjoyable. Our goal today, as in the past, is to to achieve excellence through high quality music education for students of all ages, for all musical instruments.
